Winter Window Art

The most affordable home decoration to take you from Christmas to Winter!

The end of the holiday season usually brings on a dread of a long winter. Taking down all of your twinkly lights, packing away the Christmas tree, and removing garland to reveal a bare mantle is something most people do not look forward to. I try and avoid it as long as possible. We leave everything up in our house until Orthodox Christmas on January 9th (even though we celebrate it on December 25th as Roman Catholics). My excuse is that the season is still happening. I think that’s just long enough to stretch out the joy that turning on the Christmas tree every morning brings me. However, decorating for winter can be done! Pretty soon I will be decorating for Valentine’s Day, but in the meantime, a nod to winter will do just fine.

That’s where window art comes in. I had a Christmas scene on my window before this, but I erased all of it with lots of glass cleaner. In its place, I put this little nod to the winter season. Snowflakes, pointsettas, pine sprigs, and the word “Gemütlichkeit:” an untranslatable word in German that means the coziness you feel when you belong somewhere. Quite the sentiment for winter, don’t you think?

All you need to get started are some chalk or window paint markers. You can shop for them using my #amazonaffiliatelink here. (Disclaimer: I receive a commission on all purchases.) They are so afforable, and you can use them for every season. A one time $12 purchase & it’s usually the first compliment I receive when someone comes into my home.

If you’re not an artist, that’s okay! You can still flex your creative muscle. Use a stencil, draw inspiration from doodles on pinterest, or have your children decorate the window.

I’ll meet you back here in just a few weeks to share my Valentine’s Day window art!
