Life Updates + A Roundup of Chicago Spots

IMG_7494.JPG

It’s been about two months since I’ve moved to Chicago, and it’s been full of challenges, excitement, stress, loneliness, and joy. Moving has had it all. So far I have:

  1. Gotten lost at night and was scared out of mind

  2. Met the most amazing colleagues and friends. I seriously could not have hoped for more beautiful people to earn my master’s degree alongside, like wow.

  3. Had vocal and academic breakthroughs

  4. Made meaningful friendships

  5. Gotten up for an opera and comedy open mic

  6. Called my best friend crying about how homesick I was

  7. Hosted a soup party

  8. Invested in a camera and started taking photos for myself and others. Check out my photography insta here

  9. Got a part time job as a barista

  10. Dealt with a sprained ankle for the past month.

Needless to say, I haven’t had much downtime, and I’m not upset about it. I told myself early on, that I would have to be patient. I wasn’t going to get friends, the right job, or the big breaks early. Now that I have a lot of that, it seems like there aren’t enough hours in the day. But as someone told my dad when he was starting his business, “It’s a long race, pace yourself.” My dad shared that with me the other night, after I told him how overwhelmed I was. I realize now that I can’t be everything at once. It’s okay if I can’t make it to an open mic more than once a month. It’s okay that I don’t have time for a weekly blog post. One day at a time, and I’m trusting the process.

CHICAGO SPOTS

Dollop Coffee

Honey Lavender Latte, Lavender Matcha, and Mexican Mocha are to die for!

Maison Marcel

The most Instagrammable & a killer almond milk latte

Stan’s

All of their donuts are amazing, but I get their vegan donuts! Soft & fresh and don’t make me feel like I’m missing anything.

Drumbar

Such an amazing atmosphere. The space feels luxurious, but the bartenders and staff are super friendly and not pretentious. Rooftop & cozy indoor space.

Tons of cabaret and open mics happening here!

Redhead Piano Bar

Such a fun night out when you want request live songs all night.

The Comedy Bar

Monday’s are my fav day to go, but Chicago’s best gets up here, and the atmosphere is so cool!

Cafe Ba-Ba-Reeba!

My favorite restaurant I’ve been to so far! They have ah-mazing tapas.

Joy District

Dance club! Drinks are insanely expensive, so pregame if you plan on having a few.
