Classic Movies for Isolation
In case you’re new to Melody & Grit, I will let you know that I am a major classic films enthusiast! I love romantic comedies (especially pre-1950), film noirs, and dramas. I grew up watching TCM, and I have 100s of classic movies on DVD. I’m going to share a quarantine watch list for you all! Most of these films can be found by searching them on iTunes or Amazon. To me, these films help me escape, and I encourage anyone who hasn’t see a classic or black and white film before, to give it a try.
Romantic Comedies
It Happened One Night
Everyone has to see this film at some point! Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert are sensational!
A Philadelphia Story
If you can’t quote this film word-for-word, what have you been doing? Katherine Hepburn, Jimmy Stewart, and Cary Grant.
The More the Merrier
A wartime story for the homefront that had me rolling laughing the entire time.
Merrily We Live
One of my favorite films of all time. Just trust me on this one.
It’s a Wonderful World
Jimmy Stewart and Claudette Colbert are sooo good in this one.
Noir
The Blue Dahlia
Alan Ladd and Veronica Lake in this suspense thriller. Eye-candy and a great film.
Witness for the Prosecution
Some of the best acting I’ve ever seen from Tyrone Power and Marlene Dietrich is incredible as always.
The Spiral Staircase
One of the scariest and most thrilling movies I’ve ever seen.
The Maltese Falcon
Such a gripping mystery that you have to pay attention to every single detail. Humphrey Bogart stars as Sam Spade.
Drama
King’s Row
I always considered this film to be my absolute favorite. Anne Sheridan, Charles Colburn, Ronald Reagan, and Robert Cummings bring this portrayal to life. It’s a three hour drama based on a novel by Henry Bellaman.
I Remember Mama
This is another three hour drama that is perfect for Mother’s Day. It follows one family through hardship and good times.
Journey for Margaret
The story of a family’s journey to bring children to America and out of harm’s way in England during World War II.
Mrs. Miniver
A 1942 war drama about a middle class family in England during World War II.
